My Project

I teach in East Orange School District, a 100% minority enrollment and where 51.1% of students are economically disadvantaged. My students, 54 six-graders, are at the early stages of their learning. They are inquisitive and eager to learn. They are blessed with the belief that all doors are open to them if they work hard. I work hard to keep this important mindset in them. I try to give them assignments that challenge and engage them.The requested supplies are aids to engage them in thei learning and an opportunity to make them even more responsible.

In our class we do many assignments in small groups so the requested products will be used for small group collaborations as well as independent research work.

The students really seem to enjoy the independence of working alone or with a small group to complete assignments. They take ownership of their learning and responsibility to help others in the group complete the work correctly. Headphones are essential and with every child having their own that they can keep in the classroom this will reduce the chances of spreading germs.

Also the snacks would be greatly appreciated as sometimes small gestures such as receiving a snack can motivate students to persevere through assignments that they find challenging. Additionally, they can be used as small prizes in friendly competitive situations such as a game on Kahoot.

Overall, I am excited to provide as much support to my students as possible and these items which may seem minor to some will assist me in achieving my goal. My students understand that here, regardless of the address of their school, they can get a world class education so they will be able to compete anywhere in the world. Please assist me in fulfilling my promise to them.
