While building the trophy, students practiced important skills such as measurement, ratios, proportions, geometric reasoning, patterns, estimation, and problem-solving. Instead of simply reading about these concepts, students were able to apply them while creating something they could see and touch.\r\n\r\nThe LEGO set also gave me the opportunity to incorporate teamwork, communication, perseverance, and leadership into my math instruction. Students worked together, followed detailed directions, solved problems when pieces did not fit as expected, and learned that mistakes are part of the learning process. Completing the trophy gave students a sense of accomplishment and showed them what can happen when they remain focused on a goal.\r\nWe were also able to connect our project to future careers involving mathematics, engineering, architecture, technology, design, sports, and other STEM-related fields.
