This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is my second year at my school. We are a Title I school, working to enhance learning for our students. Our school will soon seek STEAM certification that will provide even more active learning experiences for our students. We just need the resources that they will use as they learn. I teach over 1,000 amazing students at my school in our science discovery class. I want my students to have access to hands on materials that will enhance learning in math and science. I am so excited to be able to offer my students a hands-on approach to learning. My hope is that through project based learning and inventing challenges, my students will take control of their learning. As they use their art supplies to enhance their projects and to create expressive works that represent their knowledge of math and science, I know that the children will continue to feel a real connection to the material being taught.

With the requested materials, my students will raise chickens as part of our life cycles and living things units.

Students will explore weight, measurement, temperature and counting as we use raising chickens as a hands on approach to math as well. My students will learn to care for living things and enhance their sense of responsibility and compassion with this project. The cage will be used to enclose the space an protect our chickens and the feeder will be used to feed the chickens.
