Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, determined, and amazing children. They love to move and to play. They enjoy school because they love learning in so many different ways. They are amazing because they show up to school with a smile on their faces no matter what their circumstances are at home! For many of my students, school is their safe haven.
As a teacher in a low-income urban area, my students face many challenges in and out of school.
Many of my students also speak another language at home but we use their bilingual capabilities to enhance their learning. They are determined to learn as much as they can so they can apply their education outside of school!
My Project
My students have been learning coding this past semester. We've found amazing ways to integrate it with our math and science lessons. Logic and reason concepts are extremely easy to implement with these subjects. My students absolutely enjoy using coding to learn in different ways.
We're looking to take it a step above and actually use our code with a robot!
On top of what we already do, I have so many ideas to integrate the coded robot with literature! Coding works well with cause and effect and I would love them to be able to use the robot as a visual representation of this important literature skill. The SPRK+ robot has color options that could also be an awesome way to integrate art, which we no longer have at our school. There are so many lesson integration opportunities that coding and robots provide for students. The possibilities are truly limitless!
