Quilling, KWIK STIX and Art Tissue Creating Artifacts

My students need KWIK STIX paint, colored art tissue and quilling paper to create replicas of artifacts that we read about in our science and literature books.

My Students

I teach first grade students in one of the most diverse areas of the country. Our school is in the borough of Queens in NYC where we serve a wonderfully diverse international community. Students lead the way to empower learning and come up with the best ideas for resources that become our proposals for DonorsChoose.

Our parents support our journey to success, and that includes an academic focus that includes a recognition of technology, STEAM and literacy's roles in reaching our goals.

The includes reading classics at a young age. Our school community understands the importance of interactive tools to engage students so that we can expand their horizons.

My Project

Today, learning from primary sources is a powerful way to document understanding. We read so much about primary sources, but what if we wanted to recreate some of those artifacts. That would demonstrate a certain level of comprehension just by seeing our interpretations of objects we see in our books.

The KWIK STIX are special vivid paints in a stick that are easy to use with great effect.

The quilling paper will offer a technique using curled strips to create ornate replicas. The colorful assortment of art tissue can be used wet or dry and these three items would expand our resources to match our endless creativity. We'd love to use the quilling tool so we can continue to make quilling paper long after we have used up the quilling strips. These would add to the magic of using primary sources in the sciences and arts. Watch out, our replicas are on the way should we be fortunate enough to have this proposal funded.
