Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every day, I have students at my door or in class who are not only hungry to learn but are literally hungry. I would like to be able to not have to deny a student the ability to eat in class or to give them something to satiate their hunger for the time being without it being overloaded with sugar or as unhealthy as a bag of chips.

A hungry student is not going to pay attention to anything I say in class when they are worrying about when they will be able to eat next.

A student's health and physical needs must be met first before we can move on to learning.

Many students come to school after breakfast is served because they rely on public transportation or because they are hungry later in the day at our school. The snack will be for in-class but also so that students can take one or two home each day as needed. Food insecurity is a real issue in our city.
