Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are future art teachers, future engineers, future architects and so much more. These are the dreams that have been communicated to me, and dreams that are fostered through the Arts. With many students who come from low-income households, my classroom is usually the only place these students can receive an education that supports their dreams.
I love my students' passion for school, and their devotion inspires me every day.
When I forget why I am a teacher on those rough days that all teachers have, they remind me through the things I see them create. When I see a child pour their soul into their art, when I see a student erasing until they get something just right, or when I see a student who doesn't like art but tries anyway--those are the moments that tell me how much these children deserve this. They show these artworks off with pride. They have a spark in their eyes and a love for learning and creating that is just unparalleled.
My Project
Hello! I am opening this project to request materials for the creation of artwork example projects for my students at both schools I work at. I am still in high need of paper, and with 1,000 sheets like I have requested, I would have far more than enough to use with the students AND to make project examples with - an essential part of their learning process.
When it comes to how projects appear on my overhead projector, using lower quality materials like I often have to resort to, makes the paper show a bright glare because of how waxy they are, and makes it harder for the students to see how I do things such as blending.
Not only that - but I certainly don't want to be borrowing from the supplies meant exclusively for my students! Prismacolor is a brand I have practiced with before, one that I know is of a high grade quality - and one that is great for showing blending. By switching to this brand for myself in watercolor pencils and the natural skin tone pencils, I know I would have example projects to show my students for many years. This would also allow my drawing/coloring instruction to appear more clearly for my students to see when I am using my overhead projector. The natural colored pencils set would also allow me to make drawings in the different skin tones to more accurately reflect my multi-cultural student base and keep them feeling connected to the projects we make!
Lastly, markers are incredibly hard to create a value scale with - an important lesson in art. I am asking for the grey tone markers so I can show my students that nothing is impossible in art!
