My students need 4 sets of puzzles to use during the course of the new school year.

My Students

"Puzzles are so cool" is what the students in my classroom said after they asked if they could have some more puzzles to play with. I have a very limited supply of quality puzzles so I am asking for a complete set of table top jigsaw puzzles for my students.

I teach at an urban school with an ethnically diverse population.

About half of my students participate in the free/reduced lunch program. Also, many of my students do not attend preschool. Some of them are lacking in the desired skills for starting kindergarten. Even with some strikes against them, my students are very excited about coming to school, they love learning new things and have a great time in school.

My Project

I am asking for a complete set of wooden table top puzzles. I am also requesting some ABC puzzles, number puzzles, and some sight word puzzles. My students commented one day that they didn't have very many puzzles to do. Jigsaw puzzles provide brain food for young minds. Eye movement and eye-hand coordination help prepare children for reading. Many educational experts say that experiences between the ages of 0 and 5 help "lay the foundation children need for lifelong self confidence and problem solving, and empowers them to explore, make mistakes and learn." Puzzles may be educational in content, helping children learn basic skills (colors, counting alphabet) and about their world (animals, transportation, careers). Well made, quality puzzles combine these educational values with fun. I expect the students in my class to use the puzzles everyday especially when they first arrive in the morning. They also have puzzles as a center they go to during the school day.

All of the kids in my classroom will benefit from this grant.

They all love to choose the puzzles that are fun and colorful. I want to be able to provide lots of fun and creativity for my students! Thanks for considering my request!
