Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During these unprecedented times, many of the students in my low-income/high-poverty district are at-risk for falling behind. While we are doing everything we can to provide remote learning and support for these students, often times it is not enough.
The students in the developmental classroom at my school do not have the same assistive technology and materials at home to learn with and communicate as we do in the classroom setting.
These students are unable to access the curriculum in the same way their same-aged peers are able to.
My Project
I am requesting a few items that will allow one of our students the ability to access adapted materials and communicate with her family at home. Not being in school has disrupted many of our students' routines, especially our students with significant special needs. Help me to support one of our families by providing materials that our student can engage with and use to communicate with family members using switches.
These materials will provide this student with a way to engage and play with some of her favorite things from school, providing a sense of familiarity.
It is also crucial that students are exposed to many of the things they are using in school that the family does not have access to like the switches to communicate for a student who is nonverbal. All materials were carefully chosen so that this student, who is legally blind, can engage and learn.
