My Project

Once again, the students in my book club are enjoying reading The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes. This year the club was opened up to students in both first and second grade. They are excited to learn more about the Lunar New Year, which is referenced throughout the book.

My students will fully experience the Lunar New Year through books, crafts, and traditional items like fortune cookies and red envelopes.

Using these materials at our last club meeting will help students make connections between events in the book and Lunar New Year facts and traditions.

With the funding of this project, the learning about Lunar New Year will continue, as each student will leave with their own book!

I hope to foster a lifelong love of reading in my students through projects like this. Thank you for your consideration.
