Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For many students (and many adults, as well), the words "lecture" and "class notes" mean only one thing: BORING! Having a more interactive experience that incorporates visual images and sound will serve to capture and retain the attention of technology-age teens.
My students are ten and twelfth graders who attend a severely overpopulated public high school.
With a student body toppling 4300, supplies are scarce. My students are a vibrant bunch; they have a deep curiosity for learning about the "bigger" things. As we study each piece of literature, they are able to draw connections between even the most ancient pieces, and the issues that affect our world today.
My Project
I am requesting an LCD projector to be used in my class during notes and lecture! Having this resource will drastically change the learning environment in my classroom for the better! Currently, notes are projected onto the projection screen via an overhead transparency projector that doesn't work properly! I usually have to jam a folded hunk of paper into its light switch, just to keep it from turning off at random. In addition, transparencies are difficult to come by, causing me to hand-write class notes, only to later wipe them off and re-write more notes on the same clear sheet. This process is inefficient and time consuming, not to mention outdated! With an LCD projector for my class, students will receive the benefit of a multi-media presentation of notes and lecture topics. Visual images and relevant music/audio samples will be incorporated into class with ease and fluidity. Students will also benefit from being able to present their own multimedia projects with an LCD projector
While not having an LCD projector for a high school classroom may not seem like a big deal to some, it truly affects the quality and the proficiency of learning.
