This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Having the opportunity to build and do with your hands- these opportunities build skills, and confidence, in students. And that is exactly what my students with special needs NEED in our classroom:)

Ours is a class for high school students with autism.

These are students on the cusp of leaving school and entering a world where confidence and relevant life skills mean everything. The school my students attend in Southern California is socio-economically disadvantaged; acutely. We don't have many funds, or much access, to Science materials, so these materials we are requesting would really help us get to know the human body and the general cycle of life.

My Project

What we are requesting are a model of the human body (torso and head) that has removable parts. By being able to see and manipulate organs such as the heart, liver, intestines, lungs, etc. the students can develop a more concrete concept of what these organs do in, and for, the human body. We are also requesting an activity kit to go with the body for deeper engagement of more than just descriptions of what the organs do. Also we are requesting a butterfly pavilion kit. My students truly enjoy seeing things grow and develop, and taking care of butterflies would be a wonderful experience in witnessing the cycle of life development.

This project would mean a great deal to my students on many levels.

They are curious students who need engagement on a much deeper level than paper and pencil. They need to see, feel, and most importantly, do. Having the ability to deepen our Science understanding with these materials would open a new world to most of my students. I hope you are willing, but most importantly, able to help us in this endeavor.
