I teach at a 100-year-old campus in Downtown Los Angeles, and almost two-thirds of our student population are recent immigrants who are still learning English. They walk into my classroom very nervous, wondering if they're going to be judged for their language barrier. When they see a whole bookcase of books in Spanish, they light up.
