My Students

My advanced art students come from low income families. As the Covid pandemic drags on, my advanced art students persevere and make art with pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic. Even though masks stay on their faces, we continue to create. The students were especially motivated by lessons related to alcohol based markers. Students love working with ink. Their drawings are stunning, but the majority of their greyscale markers are dying. The class would benefit from a class set of alcohol markers that can be refilled. The majority of student artists are inspired by the blending work that child accomplishes with copic markers. I’ve often thought about how nice it would be if all students had access to alcohol based markers with a brush tip. Nicer markers might be the perfect bridge for their preparation to meet with professional VANS shoe designers.

My students are extraordinarily gifted.

My students have lost a year of in-person learning to Covid, yet they smile. They have so much faith in all of the teachers at our school site. This year, my students love interacting with supplies from donors. I have found that during these times of uncertainty and stress, lovely art supplies calm the

My Project

For the last two years, through the pandemic, my advanced artists have collaborated with VANS shoe company to design shoes that will motivate generation Z to create change and create a brighter tomorrow. The creative team at VANS was especially impressed by the preparation of one student who is motivated by COPIC markers. The majority of students in the class have only worked with Ohuhu markers, thanks to donors choose, but I would love for the top artists to have an opportunity to blend with Copics. It's my vision that students teach each other about layering, blending, and color combinations as they design and prepare renderings for VANS shoe company. I believe that the bright and vibrant colors of copic markers, as well as the brush nibs will continue to support students in their study of paint, and motivate them to work hard to enter the professional design community.
