This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many things we all take for granted, especially the ability to communicate with each other. My students struggle with this task every single day.

I teach students with special needs in an urban school in Wisconsin.

Many of them are non-verbal. Therefore, they use pictures to communicate with myself and each other. Although I already have some pictures for them to point to in order to figure out what it is they want or what I want them to do, there are many times when I need pictures immediately that I do not have. This is why the printer will be a wonderful addition to our classroom.

My Project

With the addition of a printer and printer ink to our classroom, the students will be able to communicate with me on an immediately, and not wait for me to run down four flights of stairs to get the picture I need. I hope for them to also be able to take some of these communication pictures home so they can communicate more effectively with their families.

This gift to our classroom will make such a difference in the lives of my students.

The students will become more independent because they can show me exactly what they want. It will also enhance their quality of life and show them that just because they are non-verbal, they can still communicate, just in a different way.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
