Print is Not Dead! Students Need to Discover Magazines!

My students need Scholastic Weekly Readers and Science Spin magazines to practice reading for authentic purposes!

This project expired on September 13, 2017.

My Students

My class. Wow. I feel fortunate to facilitate the learning of such great kids and feel passionately about providing them with the absolute best experience possible. My students are creative dynamos who are interested, passionate and ready to problem solve! These wonderful kids love coming to school and showing their wit in their writing, their ingenuity in tackling STEM projects and their mindfulness throughout the day. We are creators, readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, horticulturists, engineers and environmentalists - and above all - we are awesome!

My Project

These magazines will give my students authentic reading practice while engaging them with fun and interesting topics about the world around them. Students will use those comprehension strategies we practice every day in class to help them make meaning of the timely topics in Scholastic Magazine and Science Spin. We will use the magazines to support learning, to use during Close Reading and to look for text structure, author's purpose and determine causes and effects. Putting a magazine in the hands of each of my students will allow my students to mark up their issue, like adult readers do, and to interact with the text in a real way.
