My Project
A book in the hands of a child has endless possibilities and opportunities. They can explore the world, learn new things, and let their imaginations run wild. Learning to read opens up the world to a child. At my school, I pull double duty as a preschool teacher and librarian. Our school is located in a rural low-socioeconomic community which is reflected in the population of children that I serve. Primary grades at my school include preschool through 2nd grade and consist of about 150 students. I have been the primary librarian at my school for two years now.
I am currently working on updating our book collection with a variety of books that would interest all of my students. I am also attempting to keep physical books in my kids’ hands instead of devices. The majority of my students prefer to read physical books instead of eBooks. The majority of students do not have access to devices to read eBooks at home, thus physical books are the best way to ensure that everyone has the chance to read a variety of books. Call me old-fashioned, but I would like to keep encouraging them to do so by providing a variety of fiction, nonfiction, and easy readers that keep up with what kids are interested in today. All current and future students would have access to and benefit from the purchase of these books. With this project, I hope to inspire students to learn and promote literacy. These books would be an awesome contribution to the future of my students and would be used every day throughout the year. Thank you for taking the time to look over my project.
