My Project

How cool would it be to learn colors, shapes, letters, and numbers with lights? Hands on learning activities and experiences are the building blocks to learning in my preschool classroom. I try to provide all of my students with as many hands-on learning opportunities as I possibly can. My classroom consists of three, four and five year old children with varying abilities. I have students with cognitive, behavioral, and speech delays. Our school is located in a rural low-socioeconomic community which is reflected in the population of children that I serve.

I would love to be able to present multi-sensory learning experiences to my students.

The Early Childhood Light Table would be a great way to incorporate visual and tactile learning into my classroom. Using the variety of color, number, letter, shape, and science manipulatives for the table would be a great way to teach different learning concepts in a variety of subjects. Young children learn best when they can use their hands and incorporate as many senses as possible.

With this project, I plan to help students learn shapes, numbers, letters, sorting, counting, and explore different science concepts. Students would use their different senses to explore and learn foundational academic skills. The light table and manipulatives would be used by my students daily during my free-choice learning center time. The light table could be used independently or used during small group guided learning. This light table would also be accessible and easily used by my students with special needs and provide them with a new way to learn using lights and colors! The light table and manipulatives would be some awesome learning tools to add to my classroom that would enhance my students’ learning every single day.
