Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Music transcends all languages! My students are in school for the first time, and they need high-quality electronics to help them learn through music.

My students are all four years old, and this is the first time most of them have ever been in school.

They are funny, bright, energetic, and excited to learn! Our school is located in one of the most under-served neighborhoods in the state, and our school is small and resources are very tight. Over 85 percent of my students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Approximately half of my students are ELLs, which makes our classroom wonderfully diverse! My students deserve the best start possible in school, and I believe that a child's zip code shouldn't define what kind of resources he or she has access to in school.

My Project

My students love, love, love music! We use music in almost all parts of our day- we listen to books on CD, we sing our names in good morning songs to help each other feel important, we have dance parties as a reward for positive behavior, we sing while we clean up, and we listen to lullabies while we get ready for naptime. Unfortunately, the technology we have isn't sufficient- our speaker works sporadically and sometimes just turns off by itself, and the volume is fading and isn't loud enough for all of my students to hear the music. Additionally, we don't have our own classroom iPod, which means I have to use my own phone to play music off of- I'd love for an iPod to be available for students to use in listening centers, and to be available during times when I'm not in the room!

Donations to this project will help a classroom of pre-k students learn through music!

Having access to an iPod would make a world of difference in our curriculum and day-to-day activities. An iPod would allow me to download music to help with routines, teach content, use as a listening center, and use as lullabies. A high-quality Bose speaker that works consistently will ensure that all students can hear the music! Everyone loves music, and this project will help my students learn in all areas!
