This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I have the pleasure of teaching fifth grade again! My fifth grade team is incredible and we have truly shown resilience this past year! Thankfully it has brought us closer and made us a stronger and more determined team!

This will be my third year teaching and I have already fallen in love with my new batch of eager learners!

Although many of my previous students came from varying backgrounds we were able to create a family. This classroom culture is what I have found to be helpful and a huge impact for my students. This is the culture that I want to continue in my classroom for years to come! I love my students and they know that! Many of my students need someone who cares about them and believes in their success. I cannot wait to start a fresh new year and to cultivate the kindness for others, the love of learning and a whole new family! I am blessed to be an educator! I am the lucky one!

My Project

My students have loved doing literature circles this year! Last Friday I was able to allow them to choose their THIRD book for their next novel study! I am hoping to have each student read FOUR novels this year, not including whole class novels! It is so amazing to see their connections to the text and how excited they become when we share in small groups! I want to expand my literature circle offerings and allow my students to experience more novels from authors they connect with, like the great Jerry Spinelli!

I have seen a great deal of growth in my students participation levels and in their reading lexile!

Students who normally are more reserved are discussing predictions and connections to the novels, which makes my teaching so effective and fun!

I really cannot wait to expand my novel selection to offer more variety and power to my students. They are thrilled when they get to choose between to novels with their peers! It gives them a huge by in and each new novel I get to see their faces light up! I love teaching ELA with novels because it is so authentic! I cannot wait to see what I can do with more outstanding books!
