Power Up Devices With Modular Tables in the Library

My Project

Imagine walking into an elementary library, walking past several round tables with hard back chairs, seemingly stuck in the past. We need to bring our library up to date, into the 21st century of learning where laptops, chrome books, tablets, and phones are the lifeline to the new wave of digital content. The modular table in this project has outlets for students to plug in while seated near the table, allowing for a more comfortable way to read and explore, even if the student forgot to charge their device.

We need to harness the love of reading in our students at a young age and what better way to do that then to give them 21st century, age appropriate seating in the elementary library.

Students can plug in their devices to do other things like host a video program with another classroom, hold a committee gathering where devices are needed, and more. There will not be a scramble for cords to run to outlets across the room when multiple devices are plugged in. Students will not have to be plugged into the wall outlet in an uncomfortable spot on the floor. When we are seated in a comfortable place to read, we are more engaged with our reading, paying attention to what we are reading. Kids will be thinking about what they are reading and be ready to dive back into that book after leaving the library. Studies show that the most important predictor of academic success is the amount of time children spend reading books. Let's get our students reading by giving them a comfortable place to read!
