We currently service over 600 students, approximately 173 of these students have been identified for special education services. Our school is in a low income are and we are a full service Title I building. All of our student receive free meals and have access to limited mental health services, food pantry, and a donation center in our building. We are also in a area where gang activity and crime are at extremely high levels.
Our school is working diligently to build our Tier 1 level of supports for positive behavior interventions.
We want to continue to offer the school store where students can use the points that they have earned on items and experiences. We have seen a positive impact on our building as a whole and would like to continue this trend.
Students have become very involved with our current store. They are helping with creating lists of student requests, attending meeting to organize and prepare for the store and they are also helping to put together the student orders and deliver them throughout the building. the store is building our school community and is also providing opportunities for students to become financially literate.
My Project
We are a Title One school that is also a comprehensive need school. We utilize positive behavior support systems to help our student both academically and with behavior. When students earn the points they can use them to purchase items. This has really taken off this year but as a result our budget is dwindling to provide items for students to buy. The items that were chosen are items that the students have requested for the store.
The store is not only a great way for us to provide incentives to our students, but it is also incorporating real life situations like having a bank account and learning to budget and save for things that they really want to purchase or experience.
