As an at-risk school in a parish-based area, many of our students do not always have opportunities outside of school to engage in organized, healthy, and fun physical activity. With your generosity, we've been able to create that opportunity for them every single day.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the new dodgeballs to use during our PE classes, where they've allowed us to design structured games that focus on teamwork, communication, and strategy. One of the most memorable classroom projects so far has been our \"Team Challenge Day.\" Students were divided into small groups and tasked with creating their own game rules using the dodgeballs. They had to agree on guidelines, practice fairness, and then teach their version of the game to the class. This activity not only gave them ownership of their learning, but it also encouraged collaboration, creativity, and leadership skills—all while keeping them active and engaged.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new dodgeballs, their excitement was overwhelming. Many of them ran to grab one, smiling and laughing as they tossed the balls back and forth before class even started. A few students even asked, \"Are these really ours?\" They were thrilled to see bright, new equipment that replaced the worn-out, deflated balls we had before. It was a powerful moment that reminded us of how much small resources can mean to young people who don't always get access to new things.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our students involve incorporating the dodgeballs into a broader fitness and movement unit. Beyond just dodgeball, these resources will be used for activities that develop endurance, agility, hand-eye coordination, and sportsmanship. For example, we're planning relay races, target-based accuracy challenges, and cooperative team-building games where students will need to problem-solve and encourage one another. These activities will not only strengthen their physical health but also build their confidence, resilience, and social-emotional skills.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has made a lasting impact. By giving our students high-quality equipment, you've provided them with more than just a game—you've given them a sense of pride, joy, and belonging. Every time they step into the gym and see those new dodgeballs, they're reminded that people believe in them and want to see them succeed. It reduces the number of times a student needs to be out of their desk because they don't need to get up to sharpen a pencil. \r\nOften my softens can't afford mechanical pencils so when they realized they had that option they were pretty excited.
