My Students

Transitioning from a full time school-based OT to a full time school-based telehealth OT has been very stressful. It has been a huge adjustment for not only myself, but for all of my students. My students are from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and those differences are now more apparent now that everyone is at home. It has been a struggle trying to keep students' interest during this difficult time.

My Project

The biggest struggle I am having with my telehealth sessions is that I am confined by my bulky work computer and power cord. My sessions have become more increasingly difficult because it is hard to be creative and dynamic when confined by the few feet of power cord, square home office and office furniture.

Online therapy sessions need to be interesting and dynamic in order to be most effective while everyone is safer at home.

It is becoming more increasingly difficult to pique my students' interest every week when we are both just sitting at our computers either staring at a screen or watching them do a printed worksheet from home. I would like to begin incorporating more movement into my sessions, such a yoga, gross motor activities, and obstacle courses.

As many of my telehealth students use an iPad/tablet to access their synchronous audio/visual platforms, I would also like to join in the fun and become more portable. The iPad mini would allow me to bring my students around with me- outside, in another part of my home, etc. The tripod will afford me the opportunity to safely anchor the iPad around my home. Finally, the various case options will help me keep the iPad safe. Thank you for thinking of us school system employees at this time!
