This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students have worked for 2 years building a pollinator garden using native plants and sustainable gardening strategies. Last year, we experienced a drought, which made students see the incredible need for human stewards to care for green space. The equipment we are asking for makes it easier to water the garden, trim the outer edges, and manage plant growth.

Students comment that being in the garden in the middle of a big city calms them down and helps their minds feel peaceful.

It is essential to expand the opportunities inner city students and community members have to positively interact with nature. Conditions such as anxiety and asthma are known to improve when air quality is good and people can interact in nature.
