Pocket Charts - a Must for Hands on Word Work!

Help me give my students a place to work on their word building and rhyming/sounds with an Adjustable Pocket Chart Stand.

My Project

Students love using pocket charts! My goals for using pockets charts is to engage students in fun, literacy learning. Making a word from a picture (a picture of a cat and they choose from letters to build the word cat.) They are so proud when they can do that themselves! Placing mixed up words in a pocket chart where they have to put the words in order to make a sentence. For example: One, two, Buckle my shoe is the sentence but the words would be placed as: two, One, my Buckle shoe. Hands on work and often feeling like a teacher, makes their learning fun!

Rhyming is a repetition of similar sounds in two or more words and is important to emergent literacy and learning to read.

Children listen to the sounds within words and identify word parts. For example the "at" sound is the same as the sound "at" in cat, hat, splat and rat. Hanging up pocket charts for phonological/word work can be accessible to students at all times.

This year my class is full of students who have had limited exposure to such things as conversing with others; drawing and coloring and spending time with others. Although a challenge, what makes them special is seeing the changes, such as body language; curiosity; helping others and being part of classroom community. They are learning and growing everyday and knowing I am making a difference is worth everything.
