Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love reading to me! Especially when it's to show me how much they've improved! But I can't listen to them when they're miles away from me!

I teach in a community where there is very little support from home.

It is not because parents are not willing to give the support, but oftentimes, because these parents are working the night shift or even the double shift to provide the necessary priorities for their families. 85% of my students entered 2nd grade reading below grade level and are struggling to progress and improve at school and with the little support that they do receive from home.

My Project

With this kidney table, I will be able to interact with every child, making personal connections and providing one-on-one support. This table is solely for the purpose of guided reading, small group instruction, as well as individualized instruction.

Last school year, I had 23 students entering 2nd grade.

Only 15% of these students were reading at their grade level. By the end of the year, 65% of my students were caught up to reading at or above 2nd grade. This kidney table will help me to provide support to each child, individualizing instruction.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
