This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our building is a vibrant community of students who are curious and eager to learn! Our library is consistently alive with students reading, building and creating. We have the opportunity to host children who speak over 20 languages. We are a community school, with students who walk & ride their bikes. These and many other things make our school a special community school in the midst of a big city. This year, after an adjustment to district lines we welcomed many new students to our school. We know the power of community, acceptance and building a sense of belonging and that is our mission.
My Project
Our students are hungry for the opportunity to interact and build relationships. However, as a result of the global pandemic many of them have not had the opportunity to go to school, hang out with friends and practice playing safely and appropriately.
Play is crucial for the brain and the heart.
It is through play that students learn about sportsmanship, building relationships, conquering disappointment and sharing in joy with others. These materials would allow us to facilitate lessons that let our students practice these skills, while being coached about how to safely and appropriately develop these skills.
