Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my kindergarten students come from low-income households where access to books and literacy materials is limited. For many children, our classroom is the primary place they are exposed to quality literature, hands-on phonics activities, and opportunities to develop a love of reading.

Early literacy skills are the foundation for future academic success.

Through engaging books, phonics materials, literacy centers, and take-home reading resources, my students will strengthen their letter recognition, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence as readers.

This year, our classroom will place an even greater emphasis on hands-on learning experiences and reduced screen time. As students spend more time learning through play, collaboration, and literacy centers, they need access to engaging manipulatives, learning games, and interactive materials that help bring reading and writing skills to life. These resources will allow students to practice important literacy concepts in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways.

As I begin my second year teaching kindergarten, I continue to build a classroom library and a collection of literacy materials that support all learners. Many of these resources will be used daily during small-group instruction, literacy centers, independent practice, and take-home learning opportunities. My goal is to create a literacy-rich environment where every child has access to the tools they need to become a confident reader and writer.
