My Students

Many of my kindergartners come in on the first day of school with no previous schooling experience and very little, if any, knowledge of the English language. Their excitement at even the smallest of things is heartwarming.

These five- and six-year-olds work incredibly hard every day and their language and literacy skills have skyrocketed because of it.

Our school is a Title I school with a high percentage of English language learners. Providing students with experiences they may not have had before is the most enjoyable thing in the world and teaching this curious group of kindergartners is truly an honor.

My Project

Magnets are used all around us every day. In Kindergarten, we begin to explore the science behind magnets and how they work. It is important for our young learners to discover things on their own, instead of simply being told. In order to really learn something, research suggests letting students play with ideas and letting them find answers to their questions themselves with the teacher acting as a guide on their exploration.

With these magnetic manipulatives and books, my students will be able to discover the science behind magnets together through hands-on learning and exploration.

Our classroom science center will hold the various types of magnets and magnetic objects in it. The "Lakeshore Magnet Kit" holds 20 experiment suggestions to help guide students on their magnetic journey. The "Can Do! Magnets Discovery Kit" and "Stack and Match Magnet Rings" provides challenges for students to play around with different magnets. The several magnet themed books will be used in whole group as a way to introduce magnet concepts and further student learning. These supplies will greatly support my students' learning surrounding magnets and encourage play-based learning, something that our Kindergarten classrooms need more of!
