Learning to read, and enjoying the process, is one of the main focuses in early childhood education. Kindergarten provides the foundation for a strong emphasis on the importance of literacy and the beginning of a lifelong love for reading. My class is made up of a wonderful group of primarily English language learners. Many of their parents and families are also working on learning English. The donations for this project will allow ELL students to bring home books that they can share with their families, turning learning English and learning to read into a fun, family activity. When children are able to bring the books home that they are reading at school, they are further developing the essential reading skills that will be built upon throughout their schooling adventure. Furthermore, they are sharing that excitement to read with their families and encouraging their families to experiment with books written in English as well.
