Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a high poverty independent study school that focuses on providing career technical education to students so that they are employable when they graduate from high school. One of the keys to our success is developing relationships with our students as we show them that there are adults who believe in their power to succeed in high school and beyond.
Many of our students don't have access to a gym or other sports activities.
We would like to purchase a ping pong table to give them an activity at school that not only provides exercise, but draws them together in relationship.
My Project
My students need ways to connect with one another while on campus since we are an independent study school and many students are only on campus two or three days a week. A ping pong table is a place where students can gather and connect in a non-threatening way (unless you are really, really bad at ping pong).
Ping pong is also a way to get students more physically active while allowing them to have fun with other students.
Many of our students do not have a PE class on site, but are expected to plan their own PE activities. This ping pong table would introduce them to a great way to exercise!
