This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

“Technology doesn't just make learning easier, it makes learning possible.” (IBM Training Manual, 1991)

Our diverse school serves nearly 1,500 students, and approximately 80% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch under Title I funding.

Despite challenges, my students are driven, creative, and eager to take advantage of every opportunity that prepares them for college and career readiness.

While many of our Career and Technical Education programs are supported through funding, yearbook is not...and as a result, we operate with extremely limited technology. My students currently rely on borrowed computers and have very few cameras to capture the moments that define our school year. Still, they rise above these obstacles and produce a full-color, 216-page yearbook annually. Even during pandemic learning, we shared a single camera across staff to ensure our story was told.

My students are requesting one Cannon DSLR camera to bring their work to the next level. With access to updated technology, they will be able to capture high-resolution images, eliminate the frustration of blurry photos, and fully engage in the creative process. When students have access to professional tools, their motivation, pride, and quality of work increase dramatically.

This camera will not only enhance the quality of our yearbook, but it will also provide students with real-world, transferable skills in photography and digital media. More importantly, it ensures that our school’s history is documented with the care and clarity it deserves.
