My Project

I teach kindergarten inclusion. Many of my kids receive special education services for Autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. Many also receive services for occupation therapy. OT helps with fine motor development.

The beads, silicone, and molds in this project will allow me to make picky pads for my students to help with fine motor development.

Fine motor development helps with many things like opening snack packages, zipping zippers, and holding a pencil. Building string fingers and grasps help with fine motor. A picky pad is made from silicone and beads. The beads are placed in the mold and silicone is poured over them. Once the silicone is dry, you can remove the pad from the mold. The kids can then, pick out all of the beads. Its not easy! They really have to put forth a lot of effort to get the beads out. this will help strengthen their fingers.
