Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love the growing makerspace area of our school library. Several students recently expressed interest in delving into the area of photography. They want to document our school community and experiences that are happening outside their own immediate classrooms. Photography offers children the chance to recognize elements of the world that they would possibly have missed if they had not taken the time to slow down. It fosters a sense of community since students experience other areas of school and observe other classes, children, activities that they may not have seen before. It broadens a child's sense of their environment and encourages them to think of others.

An instant camera would allow students to develop photography skills as well as offer them the opportunity to document different art projects and other activities that occur in our school.

With an instant camera in their hands, our students can witness the experiences of other students in an artistic way. Our students want to photograph different classes putting on plays, working in music classes, and participating in different library activities. By participating in such events, they will also develop relationships among the school community and have the chance to interact with people outside their classrooms.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
