My Students

Students come into school eager to learn and explore. They are excited to talk with their friends and teacher. At this young age, children acquire new skills each and every day. My biggest challenge is getting the students' attention and keeping them engaged in an activity.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.

But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” - Fred Rogers

I teach four and five-year-old children who love learning and enjoy coming to school every day. They are happy, inquisitive, curious, and energetic and they love to learn through play. I want their first experience in school to be positive.

My Project

My students need to learn the components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The best way to do this is to use the Heggerty curriculum for Kindergarten and Primary.

The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum is a wonderful resource for students/teachers in grades kindergarten and beyond filled with lessons to help students in their phonemic awareness learning.

Implementing Heggerty in my classroom will help me teach these important skill to all of my students. Help me identify students who are at risk in the area of reading.

The RAN/RAS manual will give me the information I need on students regarding letter identification, number identification and object identification.
