Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come everyday with a desire to learn and develop relationships. As they get older this may become more difficult as they undergo some physical changes that they may leave some flustered and self conscious. Personal hygiene is something that many of these students have begun to take into consideration. I am asking for basic hygiene products to provide our students to ensure they can focus on their relationships and academics.
Our school is a community of educators and students that work hard every day to bring the very best educational experience to life.
We offer a community program and a dual Spanish/English immersion program. 54% of children attending our school qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Because this number is below 60% our school no longer receives Title I funding, though there is still great need for support around equity and enrichment for our at-risk and high needs students, as well as the student body as a whole. While we can not meet all their needs, I would like for all of our kids to have the opportunity to enter school without concerns over their hygiene.
My Project
Our school has numerous students that do not have access to some life essentials like soap, shampoo, deodorant, and other hygiene products. Without access to such essentials some students health and confidence have suffered. In turn their behavior and academics are also affected.
By providing them with some of these essentials, students will be able eliminate concerns regarding their hygiene and focus on their social and academic development, which at this age is extremely pivotal.
No kid should have to worry about life's essentials being provided for them. Personal hygiene products and a little thing like soap can make a world of difference in a kids life.
