My students need a variety of leveled books in our classroom library. Each leveled book is important to meet students needs across different ability levels. These books will develop their skills to become better readers.
I teach a diverse group of scholars in a rural town. My students come to school each day eager to learn. The skills that they learn in the classroom will be important for their success in life. They enjoy reading and love to read to the whole class during story time. Unfortunately, my classroom library is limited on books on their levels.
My students come into the classroom environment ready to read and learn.
The scholars in my room need necessary resources to strengthen their reading ability. They get so excited when they can read a book but without books on their level they become discouraged and choose to quit.
Leveled reading books are great classroom recourses. These leveled readers are important for students to become more fluent readers and will support student growth to meet the end of grade reading goals of level L or higher. They allow students to choose books that are designed towards different reading ability levels. We have limited access/ amount of these recourses and it makes things very difficult to get books into the hands of students when multiple students are on the same reading level. These books will be incorporated into independent reading and buddy reading time during centers. They will also be sent home for the scholars to read nightly for extra practice. Leveled readers will develop the students reading ability in my class now and in the future!
