This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and authentic. They are all unique in their own way. It is such an amazing journey to learn with them and to see all the ways that they shine.
They are challenging and absolutely expect the best from me and it is my pleasure to deliver always.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused in a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
Can I have a pencil? May I sharpen my pencil? These 2 questions are the top questions that I get every day. My response to this, unfortunately, is always "I'm sorry, I don't have one"This is how a typical day starts off in my classes.
At the beginning of the year, my students are usually equipped with writing materials to learn.
However, as time goes on they lose their pens and pencils and are unable to participate actively in the lessons without these materials.
Not having these necessary classroom materials is negatively affecting my students' willingness to learn. I want to get these supplies to pencil them into success.
