My Students

My students are an energetic diverse group of students. They love reading about the Titanic, testing out weight comparisons, measuring with meter strips and creating maps. They are excellent story tellers and are eager to make new connections to texts. My classroom is a positive environment and students cheer each other on. We use songs and cheers to learn new topics as well as celebrate perfect attendance! We focus on interpersonal skills as we practice math facts and reading comprehension. My students aren't perfect, and many face difficult challenges at home, but I love that I get to be the one to greet them in the morning and tell them how excited I am to see them.

My Project

I have some active students who love to engage their learning with their whole bodies. Right now they don't have a constructive outlet to pour their energy into, and they find themselves off-task. These bike pedals are intended to go under students' desks so that they can sit at their desk and pedal away, keeping their bodies busy and their minds learning. These bike pedals will provide an opportunity to give my students a positive physical outlet which will both increase physical activity and decrease the need to get up to move which will allow more time to create, read, solve, discover, connect and learn in the classroom.
