My Students

My students are a diverse group of motivated learners ranging in ages from 11-14. They are enthusiastic, kind, and smart! My students are definitely college-bound, and so they deserve the greatest in educational opportunities.

My students and I love to read together, to enjoy the shared experience of an author's words.

We know that a book is more than a story, but rather, a portal. And a good classic work of literature is a conversation with a great mind from the past!

My Project

John Steinbeck's classic novella, The Pearl, touches on themes that are still relevant today. The book is challenging, interesting, and explores social issues that will inspire important dialogue.

Classic literature helps students to develop their critical reading and thinking skills, challenges them to connect past and present, and improves their vocabulary.

The Pearl is based on an old Mexican parable, a classic tale of morality and difficult choices.

My students and I will use this novella to develop our analytical reading skills, to explore the ways that an author's word choices impact meaning, and to respond to literature in writing.
