Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At GHS, we hold the largest multilingual student population in Mecklenburg County that is almost 100% economically disadvantaged with over 60% Hispanic enrollment, a 60% graduation rate, and a 60% chronic absenteeism rate. A large majority of our English language learners are completely new to traditional schooling. Hungry and anxious students are significantly more likely to repeat a grade, score lower on standardized tests, and face a higher risk of dropping out. By restocking our calming corner with reliable snacks and comforting blankets, we directly dismantle these barriers of hunger and stress. This space provides a clean, predictable sanctuary that meets our students' most fundamental physical and emotional needs, transforming the classroom from a place of survival into a secure environment where they can genuinely focus.

Marketing requires intense collaboration and confidence—skills that are nearly impossible to build on an empty stomach or in a high-stress state.

Utilizing hands-on project materials like poster boards and sticky posters allows students to physically map out business strategies and collaborate seamlessly, bypassing language barriers through visual learning. Ultimately, this project removes the immediate anxieties of poverty, giving our resilient Wildcats the exact tools and comfort they need to show up, engage, and put the O in our G-Code and take ownership of their academic success.
