Students use their interactive notebooks to organize vocabulary, important concepts, reading strategies, and class activities. Instead of simply copying notes, they are creating something they can refer back to throughout the year. The acrylic markers have been especially popular because students can use color and creativity to make important information stand out and easier to remember.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received the supplies, there was genuine excitement about being able to personalize their notebooks and make their work their own. For many students, having a full set of supplies means they can participate without worrying about whether they have a notebook, writing utensil, or materials to complete an activity. I love seeing students who may not always be excited about academic work become invested in making their notebooks creative and meaningful.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building our interactive notebooks as we move through our U.S. History lessons. Students will add vocabulary, primary-source analysis, writing activities, and visual representations of important historical concepts. Right now, students are using the area to blend logic and art diving into Minecraft architecture to build collaborative worlds and using lo-fi music stations for 5-to-10-minute focus resets before returning to their desks completely refocused. \r\n\r\nWe are currently diving into an intense collaborative project mapping out complex problem-solving strategies through digital design and soundscapes.
