Our students come from extremely diverse and often turbulent or struggling situations. We have built a strong team of 10th grade English teachers who are dedicated to reaching each and every one of our students. I work on the team to help students as well as coach teachers. One of our biggest obstacles has been having enough of a particular text for all of the students to use at the same time. We can plan together, grade together, and help our students better IF we can all use the same text. I realize The Other Wes Moore is expensive, but not only has he written an academically challenging text, he has shared his struggles and achievements so that our students might look to him for inspiration that could change their lives for the better.
