My Students

My students are currently 8th graders. Our school is a middle/high school combination in central Vermont. We have approximately 500 students enrolled, with 140 of them in the 7th and 8th grade. We have a large number of students below the poverty level in our community. Some live in their cars, and some live in tents. We definitely have students in need and students that cannot afford proper school supplies, nor extra supplies for projects that we integrate into our curriculum.

Support = Success!

I try to support my children in any way that I can at school. This could mean giving them extra snacks during the day, supplying them with everything they need to succeed, or just a safe place to come after a long day in school. Some children are here until their parents are out of work, which could be many hours after the school day ends. I give them a place to do homework, get a snack, play some games...somewhere to stay so they are not alone at home.

My Project

In our current societal situation, there is a heightened level of anxiety. At our school, we have been fully remote since the beginning of the school year. Our students are extremely nervous to come back to school, to be in close quarters with other students.

Why not give students a little "Peace of Mind" with barriers for their desks.

The desks in my room are apart enough to meet guidelines, but why not add "comfort" to their space.

My students are nervous enough to return to school during a pandemic. Barriers will put my students more at ease to be at school as well as in my class.
