My Project

Recess is a critical time for physical activity, motor skill development, and social-emotional learning—yet many classrooms lack diverse, accessible equipment to support inclusive play for all students. Without varied equipment, recess often favors highly coordinated or athletic students, leaving others sitting on the sidelines or engaging in less active play. Research consistently shows that 20–30 minutes of daily physical activity improves focus, behavior, and academic performance while reducing anxiety and stress. A comprehensive equipment package—including chalk, balls, jump ropes, cones, and organized storage—will remove barriers to participation, allow for multiple simultaneous activities, and support mixed-ability play that includes students with varying motor abilities, confidence levels, and social skills.

Recess PE equipment will be distributed across the playground and stored in an accessible easy to carry bag.

Chalk: Ground marking for hopscotch, four-square courts, target games, and boundary lines

Playground balls (assorted sizes): Kickball, soccer-style play, wall games, and catching practice

Jump ropes (individual and long ropes): Single-rope jumping practice, Double Dutch activities, and rhythm/coordination development

This recess PE equipment package addresses a critical gap in everyday physical activity access and inclusive play opportunities. By providing low-cost, durable tools that support mixed-ability activities, the equipment removes social and physical barriers that prevent many students from engaging meaningfully at recess. Research demonstrates that increased recess activity correlates with improved classroom focus, behavior, and emotional regulation. This investment is modest in cost but significant in impact: it directly supports public health recommendations for daily student movement while building confidence, social skills, and joy in physical activity. The equipment is designed for durability and weather resistance, ensuring years of active use and long-term budget efficiency.
