Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are primarily African American and Hispanic. More than 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. School is sometimes their only source of stability and sustenance. They receive free breakfast and lunch daily, often their only nutritional meals of the day.

Our school is large high-need, low-income, urban public school district in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

This past school year has been extremely difficult for our students due to it being 100% virtual.

As a school counselor I serve as a first line of defense in identifying and addressing student social/emotional needs within the school setting. I hope to have a welcoming school counseling space with various activities/games in both the remote world and in person when the time comes to help students manage emotions and learn and apply interpersonal skills.

My Project

Our students will have the cups they need to drink necessary water as well as the face masks they continually request in school. Our students come from homes that may not have the funds to buy them enough extra face masks in case they break or damage the one they come with during the school day. These resources will assist our students in need. Water is important for our student to stay hydrated and many times they are thirsty due to lack of water bottle and/or cup as we have the regular water fountains off due to the pandemic.
