My Students

Bozhoo! That is hello in Ojibwe. I teach first-grade​ students in a school that is located on a Native American reservation. Many of my students come from generational poverty and this can bring trauma. I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved.

My students start each day eager to learn, create, and explore.

First graders often come to school brimming over with enthusiasm and excitement for learning, life, friends, and interests. This is an age commonly marked by tremendous growth, lost teeth, great emotional highs, and less frequently, some lows. First graders make big plans, jump into projects with both feet, work at a fast pace, and don't want to miss a thing.

My first graders are ready to learn and are like sponges, soaking in everything. They are energetic, kind and I am so grateful to be a part of their life at such a vital time in their lives.

My Project

I teach First Grade and we love to use our creativity each day. The last couple of years have been very hard not having our kiddos in school. However, since last September we have been back in school and the teachers and kids are loving that. We make sure to balance the academic part of school and the creativity part.

I like to teach Language Arts through creativity and painting has been the best way to accomplish this.

I do many read alouds and afterwards the students write about the story and paint pictures to represent the story. When they are done, they share their work with the class!

Any help we can get to purchase new paint materials would be great!
