We focused on the guitar and how the strings vibrate to make low and high notes. My students were then challenged to make a cardboard model of a guitar to demonstrate their understanding of the parts of a guitar. They cut and prepared a fretboard to attach to their soundboard. Next, they added details that included the pegs, posts, saddle, bridge, and sound hole. Some details were made with cardboard, but many needed to be drawn on. My students know using acrylic markers is a special treat. They love the way the paint pens dry instantly and how color can be layered. I can't begin to tell you how excited they were to use acrylic markers to decorate their guitars. I didn't get many pictures- but the work the students completed was outstanding. We haven't used our Dot markers yet, but they will be so appreciated by my students in the fall when we use them too. Thank you so much for adding color to our lessons!!! Up here in Northern Minnesota, the sub-zero temperatures are no joke, but thanks to you, my second graders are now ready to brave the frost!\r\n\r\nWhen the box arrived, the room erupted! There were cheers, \"ooohs,\" and \"aaahhs\" as I pulled out the hats, gloves, mittens, and lip balms. One student squealed in disbelief, \"You mean we get to pick out our own?!\"\r\n\r\nThe excitement was palpable. One little boy sat with his fingers tightly crossed, whispering to himself, \"Please don't take mine, please don't take mine,\" as he watched his classmates choose, hoping his favorite hat would still be there when his turn came. Another spent a good minute or two in deep thought, carefully \"calculating the risk\" of which lip balm flavor was the most popular and which one he should grab first to ensure he got his top choice. \r\n\r\nBeyond the excitement, these items provide a critical foundation for our school day.
