Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are unique and amazing because they all want to learn new ways to have fun with math and science. They eagerly seek opportunities to participate in math/science activities that will allow them to be engaged in hands-on activities and most importantly to be prepared!

Our school and our classroom are dedicated to meeting the academic and social needs of ALL our students!

We are constantly seeking out new, engaging ways to reach each and every student in our classrooms. I am very proud to say that my students are hard workers who are always ready to learn and showcase their knowledge.

To do this fun and engaging lab, we need an owl pellet kit. My students will gently pull apart the pellet, being careful not to break any of the bones inside it, and take special care when removing the skulls and jawbones, to identify the animals that the owl ate. When teaching the food chain, this lab activity will show the relationship between producers and consumers that are involved in a Barn owl's diet.

My students will learn how dissection and identifying their bone structure is a great stepping stone to learning scientific techniques to great discovery.

Students will identify an owl pellet's contents and practice recording and analyzing the data. After completion of dissection, they will visualize this relationship of the food chain and make a chart of what they think the owl's food chain looked like, based on the animals they were able to identify in their owl pellet.

Ms. Santiago will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 15.
